It comprises of a flexible, high tensile, rubber-coated fabric bladder, which is permanently clamped to a reinforced concrete foundation. The bladder is inflated either by air or water, which in turn impounds and controls water flow, and is lowered by releasing the air or water from inside the bladder.
Below is a brief introduction to Mecan-Hydro’s Rubber Dam systems experience.
Mecan-Hydro was for a period of 14 years Bridgestone’s representative in Canada as well as an advisor for projects in the North and South American markets. In 2008, Bridgestone decided to exit the Rubber Dam market and stopped supplying the product. Mecan-Hydro decided to team up with Floecksmühle a German Rubber Dam manufacturer.
Floecksmühle have their own Rubber Dam system designs on which they have made continuous product improvements. Both our companies have shared considerable Rubber Dam technology and know-how.
General information:
Typical minimum height: 0.5 m
Maximum height: 5.5 m
Maximum length: 100 m
The manufacturer recommends having an intermediate pier for practical means of installation, maintenance and for diversity of control and stability of the bladder. For reasons of transportation, the length depends partly on the height of the bladder.
Overtopping limitation of 20%.
