Thermoplastic Trash Rack

Thermoplastic is lighter and more resistant to corrosion than steel, making it a better choice for use in a hydropower generating facility where it will be exposed to water and potentially corrosive substances. Additionally, thermoplastic can be molded into complex shapes and is easy to work with, making it a more versatile material for use in trash racks.

Pros

  • Reduction of anchor ice, frazil, marine growth and zebra mussel adherence
  • Head loss reduction (Rounded edges and the smooth surface finish)
  • Low thermal conductivity
  • Light weight (20% of steel trash racks weight)
  • Less expensive for small spacing
  • There are virtually no limits of the maximum lengths and widths of our racks

Cons

  • Requires more horizontal beam support

Advantages of using our thermoplastic trash racks.

Head loss reduction

The rounded edges and smooth surface finish of our thermoplastic trash rack increase power generation by reducing leaf and grass accumulation, turbulence, vortex formation, and head loss, and its head loss coefficient is more than 30% lower than that of conventional steel bars, providing improved efficiency and output.

Low-maintenance

Our thermoplastic trash racks are maintenance-free and highly resistant to corrosion, abrasion, impacts, ozone, ultraviolet light, and sudden temperature changes, unlike steel racks which require regular painting and straightening of bent blades.

Easy assembly and installation

Our thermoplastic trash rack is lightweight, flexible, easy to assemble, install, and maintain, weighing 20% less than a steel rack with adjustable blade spacing and the ability to be shipped in parts for on-site assembly.

Sturdy blade design

Thermoplastic blades are held together by stainless steel or galvanized rods with hexagonal nuts and lock washers at each end, and small thermoplastic tubes are used to prevent ice formation around the connecting rods.

30-Year Lifespan

Our trash racks are made from long-lasting, specially-formulated polyethylene that is resistant to ozone and UV light, and can withstand impacts and abrasions with a 30-year lifespan with proper maintenance.

Unlimited Rack Dimensions

Our racks have virtually no limits on their maximum length and width, but their dimensions may be limited for shipment purposes. The dimensions of the components are determined by hydrostatic pressure, impact resistance, and the spacing of the support structure beams.

Marine Growth

The superior hydraulic profile combined with the lack of nucleation sites reduce or event eliminate marine growth and zebra mussels. Nevertheless, if they find a way to accumulate, they will be easily removed because of the smoothness of the materials.

Fish Screen

Our Thermoplastic fish screen is an effective solution to environmental challenges, offering a lightweight and flexible design with smooth, rounded blades to prevent fish injuries.
